Raiders Back at Vandy for Music City Challenge

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – With the Conference USA Indoor Championships around the corner, a portion of the Middle Tennessee track and field teams will head to Nashville this weekend for the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University.

Of the 40 Blue Raiders combined from the men's and women's teams, 14 are expected to compete in the meet. MT will have competitors in the women's and men's 400-meter, the men's 800-meter, the men's one mile run, the men's and women's 3,000-meter and the women's triple jump.
Akera Benton, who ranks 10th in C-USA in the triple jump with a mark of 11.95m, will be the first Blue Raider to compete this weekend in the women's triple jump scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Benton took eighth place overall in this event at the Indiana Relays with a mark of 11.43m.
The men's one mile run will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Jacob Choge representing the Blue Raiders. Choge recorded a personal best time of 4:00.82 at the Vanderbilt Invitational earlier this season, which ranks second in the conference and 27th in the nation.
Glory Nyenke and Shawkia Iddrisu will represent MT in the women's 400-meter, and Willington Wright and Matthew Stewart in the men's 400-meter. Wright ranks fourth in conference and 28th in the country in this event after finishing with a time of 47.12 at the Indiana Relays. Senior Nathan Mack will take on the men's 800-meter, in which he has a personal best time of 1:54.63.
Seven Blue Raiders, two women and five men, will compete in the men's and women's 3,000-meter on Saturday. Pamela Kosgei and Mercy Chepkurui will represent the women's team and Thobile Mosito, Hillary Kimaiyo, Titus Lagat, Brian Rono and Stephen Mengich will represent the men.
