MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Aislynn Hayes was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the sixth time as announced by the league office Monday.
The six honors are tied with FIU's Kiandre'a Pound for second most all-time in C-USA by a league freshman.
Hayes averaged 19 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in games against UAB and at UTEP, helping keep the Lady Raiders (18-9, 10-5) in position for a first-round bye in the C-USA Tournament.
"Getting that win at UTEP was big Saturday. All of these games are big because we are coming down the stretch and trying to position ourselves in the best possible way for the conference tournament," Hayes said.
Hayes was dynamic against UTEP as she poured in 20 points, pulled five rebounds and dished out five assists. It marked the seventh time with 20-plus points for Hayes, who also has shared four-plus assists 11 times.
She was also part of a 3-point barrage that saw Middle Tennessee connect for 12 treys. Hayes accounted for three of them, marking the eighth time she has hit three of more 3-pointers in a game.
The heralded freshman also was a bright spot against UAB, leading the team with 18 points to go with three assists.
Hayes is among C-USA leaders for minutes (3rd, 36.3), 3-point field goals (5th, 2.0), assist-turnover ratio (8th, 1.2), assists per game (9th, 3.2) and scoring (12th, 13.9).
Middle Tennessee will return to action when it plays host to rival WKU Saturday. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
