MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – With a unique and challenging offseason behind them, Middle Tennessee women's golf is set to begin the 2020-21 season Monday in Birmingham.

Head Women's Golf Coach Chris Adams and her team have navigated their way through a unique and challenging offseason, and are now beyond ready to be back participating in competitive golf.

"We have not competed as a team since March, and this 6 months has really seemed like forever. With classes going online for the end of the spring semester and us not being able to get out and recruit all summer and watch golf, I am personally extremely ready for competition. I can't explain how happy I am to be traveling and am so grateful we are to be given the opportunity.

"For the players, they have been playing all summer individually and are also very ready to compete as a team. They have stayed sharp with their games through this time. We feel very fortunate that our administration is allowing us to compete since we know there are a lot of other teams that don't have the same opportunity."
The Blue Raiders open the fall campaign on the road, taking on the field at the Hoover Invitational on Sep. 21-22. MT's first event is hosted by Conference USA rival UAB at Hoover Country Club.
Middle Tennessee then travels west in mid-October to compete in Arkansas State's Lady Red Wolves Classic (Oct. 12-13) at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
MT's final fall event tees off less than a week later, when the Raiders travel to Pine Mountain, Ga., to take part in the Callaway Gardens Invite (Oct. 19-21) hosted by South Alabama at Callaway Gardens Golf Course.
"We are very excited to be playing in these events hosted by UAB, Arkansas State and South Alabama. They are all fairly close to home and each have 10-12 teams competing who are also nearby regionally. There just are not that many events being held so we feel fortunate to get to play."
The Blue Raiders return their entire roster from the 2019-20 season, including stroke average leader Sophie Burks (73.7), fellow upperclassmen Caroline Caudill and Savannah Quick, and Catherine Caudill, Madison Smith, Molly Bebelaar and Taylor Edlin.

The 2020-21 roster includes one new face mixed in with the seven returners, as incoming freshman Lauren Gilchrist joins the squad from Spanish Fort, Ala., after a standout prep career at UMS-Wright Preparatory School.

"We're very excited to have our whole team back this season as well as to add a new freshman from Alabama, Lauren Gilchrist, to the roster. Our senior class – Sophie, Caroline and Savannah – provide us with a lot of experience although we will start the year without Savannah as she works to return from injury. Catherine and Madison also have great experience in our program as juniors while Molly and Taylor are coming off a year where they got very valuable playing time as freshmen and are ready to build on that experience.

"Our team played individually and had a lot of success in several tournaments this summer, and I feel that really has them ready to play in a team event. Overall, I am just very excited for the players to get to compete since they have put in a lot of work to get to this point!"
