HOOVER, Ala. – Blue Raider Women's Golf had some rust to shake off as they returned to competitive action on Monday at the Hoover Invitational, concluding a 36-hole day in eighth place at 27-over par (306-297=603).
Middle Tennessee struggled in the back half of the opening round, going 14-over after the turn to post an 18-over par round before cutting that number in half to go 9-over par in the afternoon.
"We saw some improvement in the second round, but just had a little bit too slow of a start in the first round of the day," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We had too many double bogeys to try and make up for and we had some trouble getting used to the green speeds today as well."
Junior Catherine Caudill posted a team low 3-over 75 in round one before four Blue Raiders bested her with matching scorecards of 2-over par 74 in the afternoon round.
Senior Sophie Burks boasts the top 36-hole score for MT, finishing the day at 6-over par (76-74=150) and tied for 19th.
Sophomore Molly Bebelaar (77-74=151) is one stroke back of Burks at 7-over par while Catherine (75-77=152) and Caroline Caudill (78-74=152) are both 8-over par and just outside the Top 25.
Taylor Edlin improved in the afternoon round with a score of 3-over 75 bringing her to 9-over par (78-75=153) while junior Madison Smith, playing as an individual, finished the day at 13-over par (83-74=157).
Middle Tennessee will look to make up some ground in Tuesday's final round with tee times beginning at 8:50 a.m.
"We will come out tomorrow, try to bounce back with a good team round and just keep getting more consistent," Adams added.
