MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama Classic didn't end the way the Blue Raiders wanted, as Middle Tennessee (2-6) was blanked by No. 20 Missouri on Sunday morning.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 0, No. 20 MISSOURI 8
» After the Blue Raiders went down in order in the top of the first, Missouri broke the ice with a two-out RBI double.
» Both starting pitchers tossed a perfect second inning, then the Tigers struck again, adding two unearned runs and making it a 3-0 score.
» Summer Burgess broke up the perfect game with a leadoff single in the fourth inning and advanced to third base, but the Blue Raiders were unable to bring her home to score.
» The Tigers added to their lead in the fourth inning on a leadoff homer to center field, but they weren't done scoring in the fourth. A fielder's choice later in the inning plated two more to give Missouri a 6-0 advantage.
» A two-out double scored a seventh Missouri run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
» Missouri then ended the game with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.
» Following Sunday morning's game, Jocelynn De La Cruz and Amaya Harris were named to the weekend's All-Tournament Team.
» De La Cruz started four games at third base and one game at designated player for the Blue Raiders this weekend, posting a .375 batting average and hitting one of MT's three doubles.
» Harris started her first five career games at the South Alabama Classic, hitting at a clip of .357.
QUOTES FROM THE BLUE RAIDERS
» Head Coach Jeff Breeden on Jocelynn De La Cruz and Amaya Harris being named to the All-Tournament Team: "De La Cruz played like a veteran player should. She hit the ball hard all weekend and played exceptional defense. Amaya was on fire at the plate this weekend. She was seeing the ball well and making good swings."
» Breeden on what the team needs to clean up heading into next weekend's tournament: "I'm not very pleased with our offensive output at this time. We've wasted some good pitching outings by not getting enough baserunners to apply pressure on our opponents. We just need to get back to hitting line drives and getting some timely hits."
