CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee dug itself a hole early on day one of the Chattanooga Classic, but bounced back nicely in the afternoon round to land squarely in the middle of the 13-team field at 36-over par (316-296=612).
The Blue Raiders found themselves as far down the leaderboard as 12th place at times in the opening round, but dug deep and used the third best team round of the afternoon to climb back to seventh by the end of round two.
"We seemed to just be missing our shots in all the wrong places in the first round, short siding it where it made it hard for us to get up and down," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We figured that out in the second round, played a little more relaxed and were able to make some birdies.
"Seven double bogeys and three triple bogeys in the first round to only two doubles in the second round with several more birdies tells the whole story of the day."
Junior Catherine Caudill was the lone bright spot in round one, firing an even par 72 in the individual spot to land in a tie for second and remains in the Top 5 after a 3-over par 75 in the second round.
Sophomores Taylor Edlin (78-75=153) and Molly Bebelaar (80-73=153) turned in the best days of the five Blue Raiders in the lineup, each finishing Monday tied for 19th at 9-over par.
Senior Caroline Caudill is 11-over par (78-77=155) thru 36 holes with Junior Madison Smith one stroke back at 12-over par (80-76=156).
After a throwaway round in the morning, senior Sophie Burks rebounded in the afternoon with a round of even par 72 and will look to help the Raiders continue to climb the leaderboard in round three.
"Catherine had two solid rounds and Sophie bounced back really well after a rough start," Adams added. "We'll leave it all out there tomorrow and if we continue to improve we'll have a chance to keep moving up the leaderboard."
Tuesday's final round will feature tee times off holes 1 and 10 at 8:00 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be followed at Golfstat.com.
