DADE CITY, Fla. – Middle Tennessee turned in a strong showing Monday at the Conference USA Championship amidst multiple lightning delays, closing the day alone in third place at 2-over par.
The Blue Raiders shared the third spot on the leaderboard with Southern Miss after a 6-over par 294 in round one and are currently 4-under par halfway thru the second round.
"We played really solid today as a group and hung in there after the delayed start and another lightning delay later in the day before going back out," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We like the course and it has definitely provided us with a lot of birdie opportunities so far."
Senior Sophie Burks leads the way at 1-under par and is currently tied for 6th after posting an even par 72 in round one and using birdies on Nos. 7 and 13 in round two to move under par.
Sophomore Taylor Edlin matched Burks in round one with an even par 72, and at 1-over thru 10 holes of round two is now tied for 12th at Lake Jovita.
Junior Catherine Caudill surged into the 12th place tie early in round two with birdies on Nos. 10 and 14 and will start the front nine on Tuesday at 2-under par for the round and 1-over for the tournament.
Senior Caroline Caudill was tied with her younger sister after birdies on 13 and 14 in the afternoon, but dropped two strokes before play was halted to sit tied for 22nd at 3-over par.
Sophomore Molly Bebelaar is looking to turn things around in round two, currently 1-under par thru 9 after posting an 8-over par 80 in the opening round.
The Blue Raiders will chase WKU (-9) and No. 33 North Texas (-3) when play resumes and sit six strokes clear of fourth place Southern Miss (+8) and 12 strokes ahead of No. 49 UTSA (+14).
"We're hoping to come out tomorrow with even more confidence after a good first day and keep moving up the leaderboard," Adams added.
The second round will continue with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be followed on Golfstat.com.
