MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame announced the addition of Stepan Holis to the program for the 2021-22 season.
A native of Zašová, Czech Republic, Holis transfers to the Blue Raiders after playing four years at the University of New Mexico. With the NCAA allowing an extra year of eligibility, he has decided to play his final year and attend graduate school at MTSU.
"I am extremely grateful and happy to become part of the BlueRaider family," said Holis. " I can't wait to work hard next to the guys in the fall and prepare us for an extremely successful spring season!"
At New Mexico, Holis accumulated a singles record of 56-31 and a doubles record of 40-28. His best season came as a sophomore when he led the Lobos with 23 singles wins and 14 doubles wins en route to being named All-Mountain West in both.
He concluded his New Mexico career on a high-note as he helped the Lobos win the 2021 Mountain West championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Before his time in Albuquerque, Holis attended Gymnázium Jiřího Wolkera and played for clubs TK Na Doline and TK Spartak Jihlava in the Czech Republic.
In addition to his strong performance on the court, Holis will also add to the strength of the Blue Raiders in the classroom as he was named a Mountain West Scholar Athlete three times with 2021 yet to be announced.
