Men’s tennis goes undefeated in day one of the ITA Regional Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As the ITA Regional Championships kicked off, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders started the tournament in strong fashion going seven-for-seven in day one.
MTSU began the day with two doubles victories.
In the first doubles match, Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Francisco Rocha picked up an 8-2 win over Eastern Kentucky's Julappagari Anurag Reddy and Zachary White. Ondrej Horak and Pavel Motl added the second doubles win with an 8-2 win over Tennessee State's Nicholas Adamec and Christo Alex.
The Blue Raiders continued their winning ways into the singles portion of day one. MTSU picked up five singles wins in five matches.
In the first singles match, Rocha took down Southern Indiana's Ruben Emmerson Hiini at 6-1, 6-3.
Horak tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ali-Khan Mujtaba (Purdue) to secure the second singles win of the day. In the third singles match, Shu Matsuoka won his singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Chattanooga's Peyton Gatti. Motl picked up the fourth singles win of the day for MTSU with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sota Minami (Austin Peay). In the fifth and final singles match of the day, Brostrom Poulsen defeated Austin Peay's Tom Bolton 6-2, 6-0 to help the Blue Raiders remain undefeated to finish day one of the ITA Regional Championships.

"It's always good to start a tournament going undefeated on the first day. It was a long day and conditions were tough, it was cold and windy, and matches were played in both outdoor and indoor courts. Our boys never complained and had a great attitude throughout the day. Tomorrow, it'll be another long and physical day. Our goal is to continue to have a great attitude and compete no matter what. If we do that, we'll continue to have good results."
