Blue Raiders open up C-USA road slate this weekend against Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Middle Tennessee Softball (15-15, 2-1 C-USA) is set to open up its road slate this weekend as the Blue Raiders travel to Huntington, West Virginia to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd on March 25-27 at Dot Hicks Field.

Last Time Out: Tennessee State
Middle Tennessee Softball closed out its nine-game homestand this week as they hosted the Tennessee State Tigers for a Wednesday clash at Blue Raider Softball Field. The Blue Raiders took a commanding 5-0 lead through the first four innings of the game, but after a pitching change, the Tigers got two back to make it a three-run ballgame, but the Blue Raiders tacked on one more to eventually close out the game and capture the 6-2 win over Tennessee State.

The Blue Raiders finished their nine-game home stretch 6-3 this past week, which was capped by a 6-2 Blue Raider win over the Tennessee State Tigers on Wednesday.
Freshmen Anyce Harvey and Laura Mealer, and sophomore Amaya Harris lead the Blue Raiders offensively this season. Harvey is batting a team-leading .365, placing fourth on the team with 23 hits, including a C-USA-best 10 doubles, and has brought across a team-leading 22 RBIs so far this season. Mealer and Harris have both connected on a team-best 33 hits this season, batting a team second-best .359 and team third-best .355 each, respectively. Mealer has scored a team-high 22 runs and ranks second on the team with 16 RBIs this season.
On the mound, the Blue Raiders are led by seniors Gretchen Mead and Corrina Dodd. Mead holds a team-low 2.15 ERA and a 3-2 record in 14 appearances this season. Fellow senior Corrina Dodd boasts a team-best 6-3 record and has pitched a team-leading 61.0 innings in 11 outings so far this season. Dodd has fanned a team-best 38 batters, and has pitched five complete games, including one complete-game shutout.

Marshall is in its fourth season under head coach Megan Smith Lyon, who has led the Thundering Herd to a 96-51 record during her time in Huntington.
The Thundering Herd are led by Aly Harrell and Mya Stevenson. Harrell is batting a team-best .500 with a team-leading 36 hits, including a team-second best eight doubles and three home runs this season. She is also tied for the team lead in runs, scoring 20 times through the Thundering Herd's 25 games this season. Stevenson is batting .398 for the Thundering Herd, connecting on a team second-best 28 hits, including a team-best nine home runs. Stevenson also leads Marshall with 26 RBIs during the 2022 campaign.
Marshall's Sydney Nester leads the Thundering Herd this season, posting a 10-5 record and a team-low 1.61 ERA in 19 appearances this season. Nester has put in 100 innings of work, pitching 13 complete games, and recording seven shutouts this season. She has also fanned a team-best 154 batters through 25 games this season.

Marshall holds the all-time series lead over the Blue Raiders, 19-4. The Thundering Herd also hold a 5-0 record for games played at Dot Hicks Field. However, Middle Tennessee has won the last three-straight matchups between the two programs, the last of which the Blue Raiders secured a 6-2 win over the Thundering Herd on April 11, 2021.
