Middle Tennessee Softball drops game two at Marshall on Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Blue Raiders fell in game two against Marshall 9-1 on Saturday at Dot Hicks Field.
The Blue Raiders got things started early in the first. Sophomore Amaya Harris drew a leadoff walk to get MT's first baserunner aboard. Following a lineout, Mealer drew another walk for the Blue Raiders in her first at-bat of the day, putting two on and moving Harris into scoring position. Freshman Anyce Harvey followed Mealer, connecting on the first pitch she faced, knocking it up the middle to bring around Harris and give the Blue Raiders the opening 1-0 lead.
Middle Tennessee's lead was short lived however as the Thundering Herd responded in the first. Marshall also drew a leadoff walk in the opening frame to put one on with no one out. Marshall recorded back-to-back walks, putting two aboard for the Thundering Herd before a two-out single into center field plated the Marshall baserunner from second and brought the game even at one apiece, 1-1.
In the second, Marshall opened the inning with another leadoff walk before Adams connected on a two-run home run over the center-field wall to give the Thundering Herd their first lead of the contest, 3-1.
The Thundering Herd led off the third inning with a solo home run from Pye over the left-field wall to extend their lead to three after three, 4-1.
The Thundering Herd scored four more in the fourth. A leadoff single and a walk put two on for Marshall before a three-run home run from Stevenson kicked Marshall's lead out to six, 7-1. Marshall added one more in the inning, scoring off a two-out single from Love to push Marshall's advantage to seven, 8-1.
The Blue Raiders put the Thundering Herd down in order in the fifth, however Marshall eventually took the game in the sixth. The Thundering Herd drew a leadoff walk, before advancing to second on a groundout. Marshall's Owen then connected on a single into left field to plate the Thundering Herd baserunner from second and close out the 9-1 contest.
Sophomore Amaya Harris and Harvey led the Blue Raiders in the contest. Harris went 1-for-2 in the contest, connecting on her third double of the season. She scored the Blue Raiders run in the contest, while also drawing a walk. Harvey batted 1-for-3 in the game and tallied the Blue Raiders' RBI.
Senior Corrina Dodd started in the circle for the Blue Raiders, pitching 1.2 innings, and allowing three runs on two hits, and struck out a batter. Fellow senior Kailey Ahlstrom took over on the mound for MT, putting in 1.1 innings of work and allowing two runs on three hits. Freshman Claire Woods closed out the game, going 2.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and recorded one strikeout.
