MOBILE, Ala. – Middle Tennessee baseball dropped a close 1-3 contest to South Alabama Friday night.
Despite another strong outing from Zach Keenan, the Blue Raiders (4-7) were held to one run off three hits by South Alabama (6-2).
Almost a week after throwing a complete game shutout vs. Ball State, Keenan picked up where he left off, tossing 7 2/3 innings while striking out five.
After giving up the game's first run, Keenan bounced back and tossed five scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning.
MT threatened in the top of the eighth with the Jaguars leading 3-0 when Nathan Sanders walked and Jared Vetetoe doubled for his second hit of the day, but the two-out rally would come up short.
In the top of the ninth with the Blue Raiders in need of a spark, Fausto Lopez blasted a solo shot to center, cutting the deficit to two runs. Wyatt Morgan reached after on a hit by pitched but the next three batters were retired to end the game.
