Wolf finishes in the top 10
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee used some strong finishes Sunday to end the Mason Rudolph Championship in fourth place. Nick Wolf, Michael Barnard and Connor Daly all were under par on the back nine to help the Blue Raider finish at 286 (+2) and end the tournament at 844 (-8). Wolf tied for ninth place individually at 207 (-6) after carding a 72 (+1) in the third round.
"I saw a lot of fight from our team today, and I'm really, really proud of them," head coach Mark McEntire said. "We got off to a rough start. Kudos to Michael Barnard – he was 4-over through three holes and he came back and shot 1-under. That might've been the round of the year for him… Another great tournament for Nick Wolf… [he is] turning into a great player, playing really, really well for us. I'm also really proud of Connor Daly… I thought he did a nice job giving us three big rounds."
Wolf recovered from a 3-over front nine to go 2-under on the back nine. He birdied three straight holes down the stretch before saving par on the 18th with an incredible effort. After his third shot wound up in the mulch under a tree across the cart path behind the bleachers, the Murfreesboro native chipped onto the green for a makeable putt that he proceeded to sink.
Wolf recorded his second top-10 finish of the spring. His score of 207 is the lowest of his Blue Raider career and ranks in the top 20 in program history.
Barnard bounced back from a double bogey on the first hole and two subsequent bogeys to finish with a team-leading six birdies and a score of 70 (-1). The Hendersonville, Tenn., native ended the round in a tie for 16th at 210 (-3). Starting with a near-ace that he tapped in for birdie on the 11th hole, Barnard finished with three birdies and five pars over his final eight holes of the tournament.
Connor Daly put the finishing touches on his best tournament as a Blue Raider, tying for 28th at 213 (E) for the event after recording a 72 (+1) Sunday. He picked up four birdies, including two on his final three holes of the day. The Nashville native finished the Mason Rudolph Championship at 3-under on par 3 holes, tied for the second-best score on those holes among the 87-player field.
Kevin Jegers hit a stumbling block on the 18th hole, ending the day with a double bogey that forced him over par for the round. The Tallinn, Estonia, native finished the round at 72 (+1) and the event at 220 (+7), tying for 55th individually.
Owen Stamper rounded out the MT lineup with a 77 (+6) Sunday, tying for 55th at 220 (+7).
The Blue Raiders have one regular season tournament left on the schedule, Mississippi State's Mossy Oak Intercollegiate in West Point, Miss., April 11-12.
