DALLAS – After the best season in program history which saw the team complete a three-peat of the C-USA Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Round of 32, seven Blue Raiders find themselves on the postseason award lists, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
"To have six different players awarded for their on-court accomplishments is impressive," head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "This entire team has been exceptional and pursued excellence from day one on campus. These awards are the result of all the hard work and dedication towards our goals of being #Superb. Congrats men!" said Borendame.
Senior Stijn Slump takes home the 2022 C-USA Player of the Year honors after finishing the Spring slate of matches with a 18-8 record in singles and 18-6 record in doubles. Slump became the highest rated player in the Borendame era, reaching as high as No. 21 in the ITA singles rankings. Stijn earns his eighth C-USA postseason honor on his career, notably, won the C-USA Freshman of the Year in 2019 and has won two C-USA Outstanding Singles Player of the Championship in 2019 and 2021.
Borendame secures his fourth C-USA Coach of the Year Award after leading his 2022 squad to a three-peat of the conference title and the most wins in program history. Borendame led the team to the NCAA Round of 32 for the third time in school history and completed the first sweep in the NCAAs in school history, defeating UNCW 4-0 in the R64. Coach Borendame led all six starters to an ITA rank this season and helped those student-athletes achieve C-USA Athletes of the Week in the same season.
Graduate Students Chris Edge and Stepan Holis cap incredible collegiate careers by earning the 2022 Outstanding Doubles Team of the Championship, going 2-0 as a pair with wins over UTSA and Charlotte in the final two rounds. Edge and Holis, primarily competing on flight three, finished the season with a record of 22-5 together.
Seniors Francisco Rocha and Slump earn a spot on the All-C-USA Singles First Team, both student-athletes win the award for the second time in their careers. Rocha, No. 100 in the latest ITA ranking, finishes his senior season with a record of 19-4 in singles and defeated his opponent on flight two against seven ITA ranked teams. Slump, the second highest C-USA player in the ITA ranking, went 4-6 against other ranked individuals and will head to Champaign as an alternate in the NCAA Singles Championship later this month.
Edge and Holis earned All-C-USA Singles Second Team honors after anchoring Middle Tennessee in the middle of the singles lineup this year season. Edge ended the season with a 21-8 record and Holis went 18-9 this Spring in his lone season with MT.
All three starting doubles team earned a spot on one of the two All-Conference Doubles Teams. Pavel Motl/Slump and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen/Rocha made the First Team, while Edge and Holis make the Second Team.
