INDIANAPOLIS – Middle Tennessee men's tennis head coach Jimmy Borendame has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Committee, joining the prestigious group on Friday morning.
Borendame, entering his 13th year at the helm of the Blue Raiders, starts his term on the committee that runs through Aug. 23, 2023. The NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Committee strives to sustain and advance the mission, traditions, values and reputation of NCAA Division I tennis.
"I am honored to serve on the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Committee," said Borendame. "I'm excited to learn and help grow college tennis in any way I can."
Borendame has been a staple in the collegiate tennis community, starting as a student-athlete at Butler from 1999-2002. After his playing career, the Wheaton, Ill. product made stops as an assistant coach at West Virginia, William & Mary, and Virginia Tech from 2003-2008, before being elevated to an associate head coach for the Hokies in 2009.
He then served a one-year stint in Des Moines, Iowa as the head coach at Drake for the 2010 season, leading the Bulldogs to an overall record of 15-9 and 11-2 at home.
Since his arrival to Murfreesboro in 2011, Borendame has re-established Middle Tennessee men's tennis on the national stage and rejuvenated the local tennis community. Accumulating over 200 wins for the Blue Raiders in his time at MTSU, he's the second coach in program history to reach that milestone.
A four-time Conference USA and a two-time Sun Belt Coach of the Year, Borendame has also earned the 2021 USPTA National Coach of the Year, two USPTA Southern College Coach of the Year awards, and two ITA Ohio Valley Region Coach of the Year awards
In that span, he has also guided five teams to a conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, including a current three-peat of the C-USA Championship, one of three schools in conference history to accomplish that feat. Additionally, Borendame has produced three C-USA Players of the Year, 69 All-Conference Athletes, and 61 ITA Scholar-Athletes.
"Jimmy is clearly one of the best tennis coaches in America and has developed a reputation as such," said MTSU Deputy Athletic Director Lee De León. "He deserves this opportunity and will bring great value to this committee. We are proud to have Jimmy represent MTSU as part of such a high-profile committee."
