Blue Raiders defeat No. 19 Duke at the ITA Kickoff Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis opened ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-2 victory over No. 19 Duke on Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Blue Raiders will face the winner of No. 10 Wake Forest or No. 23 Auburn on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. CT in the championship match of the Wake Forest Regional.
No. 26 Oskar Brostrom Poulsen/Francisco Rocha started doubles off with a 6-3 win over No. 49 Michael Heller/Andrew Zhang. Freshmen Ondrej Horak/Marcel Kamrowski secured the doubles point by defeating their Duke opponent 6-4.
Duke won a point on court No.1 to tie the score at 1-1. Horak gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win on court No. 4. Pavel Motl tallied a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory on court No. 6 to give MTSU a 3-1 lead. The Blue Devils would take a point on court No. 3. Kamrowski clinched the win for the Blue Raiders winning 7-5, 7-6 (7).

"The squad stepped up and battled. I challenged them to keep it simple. Duke is crazy talented and tough. I am impressed how the young guys, Ondrej and Marcel, stayed composed. We have some adjustments to make and will get the men ready for another battle tomorrow."
