Blue Raiders Fall Behind Early in Loss to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Middle Tennessee Baseball was unable to overcome a Coastal Carolina Chanticleers five-run first inning, falling 11-3 in Game 2 of its Baseball at the Beach weekend at Springs Brooks Stadium on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders struck first, when RF Eston Snider advanced home to score on an E2 after stealing third.
After allowing five runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second to fall behind 6-1, MTSU would get back on the board in the fifth when grad transfer DH Jeremiah Boyd connected on his first Blue Raider homer to make it 6-3.
However, Coastal Carolina would tack on a run in the seventh and four in the eighth to pull away from the Blue Raiders.
The Skipper Speaks
"Coastal Carolina is really good. They are very well-rounded, even with some young guys in the lineup," said head coach Jerry Meyers. "You can see that they can apply some pressure all the way around. We just didn't get off to a good start. We had a good first inning on our half, then Coastal Carolina punched. We punched back a couple of times, but we didn't play well enough to climb back from behind against a good club at their place."
By the Numbers
2: RHP Eriq Swan settled in after giving up the game's early runs to deliver two scoreless frames, with the starting pitcher allowing no runs in the third and fourth innings.
2: LF Jackson Galloway went 2-3 Saturday and scored on Boyd's home run.
3: LHP Jake Cothran tossed a trio of innings out of the bullpen, stranding the bases loaded in the fifth and allowing one run in the seventh.
Blue Raider Notes
MTSU made no position player lineup changes from Friday's win in Saturday's game.
Boyd and 2B JT Mabry take two-game hitting streaks into Sunday's weekend finale. SS Brett Coker meanwhile maintains a two-game on-base streak.
RHP Calen Peterson made his college debut out of the bullpen late in Saturday's game.
