MTSU battles to a 4-3 win over Tulane on Friday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — No. 25-ranked Middle Tennessee men's tennis defeated Tulane 4-3 in the first round of the Blue Gray Championships on Friday, Feb. 24 in Montgomery, Ala.
The Green Wave would take a point a court No. 3. Francisco Rocha won his singles match on court No. 2 6-4, 6-2. Tulane would gain another point on court No. 5. On court No. 1, No 69 Stijn Slump defeated No. 74 Fynn Kuenkler in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to tie it at 2-2. Freshman Ondrej Horak fought back from losing the first set 1-6 to win the next two 6-1, 6-4.
MTSU and Tulane would end singles tied 3-3. The doubles point would be the deciding factor in the match. No. 44 Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Rocha won on court No. 1 6-3. The Green Wave won on court No. 3. It would come down to Pavel Motl and Slump on court No. 2. The duo of Motl and Slump battled for a 7-5 victory to clinch the match for the Blue Raiders.
The victory would put MTSU in the winner's side of the bracket to face No. 36 Auburn in doubles later on Friday. The Tigers would take the doubles point with wins on court No. 3 and 1. The Blue Raiders will continue the dual match vs. Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. CT.
