Blue Raiders Fall to LA Tech in Series Opener

The Blue Raiders now stand at 21-20 overall, with a 10-9 mark in Conference USA play.
LA Tech struck first with a run in the top of the first. The Raiders answered in the home half of the inning, when DH Jeremiah Boyd doubled in SS Brett Coker with two outs. But the visitors would subsequently tally a run in the second to retake the lead for good, before putting up four an inning later to make it 6-1.
MTSU's lineup produced another two-out run in the third, when LF Jackson Galloway singled to score C Briggs Rutter.
1B DJ Wright had an one-run groundout in the eighth inning, before Jared Vetetoe and Gino Avros logged ninth inning RBI. Wright would then single up the middle with two outs in the ninth to give the Raiders their fifth run of the inning.
Patrick Johnson absorbed the loss on the evening and moves to 3-3 on the season.
The Skipper Speaks
"It's always difficult to shift momentum. It's about being able to put a couple of zeroes up when pitching and then being able to answer. But we couldn't get our footing on the mound. A couple of guys had some good spurts in there, but then some damage was done. It seemed like a lot of things didn't go our way. Once the game had some separation, I thought our guys tried to have as good as good at bats as they would have in a closer game. We just got off to a bad start that we couldn't overcome," said head coach Jerry Meyers.
By the Numbers
3-4: CF Luke Vinson was 3-4 with a double.
2-4: Coker and Boyd each went 2-4 Friday.
2: Vetetoe had a two-RBI single in the ninth, going 1-1 with a walk off the bench.

The teams are back for Game 2 of this three-game series Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
