Blue Raider comeback falls short in the Second Round of the Starkville Regional

STARKVILLE, Miss. — No.27 Middle Tennessee men's tennis battled and came up short against No. 16 Mississippi State 4-2 in the second round of the Starkville Regional on Saturday, May 6 in Starkville, Miss.
The Bulldogs took the doubles point in a battle until the end. MSU won on court No. 1 6-3. On court No. 2 and No. 3, both matches went to a tiebreak with the Bulldogs pulling out the win on court No. 2 7-6 (0).
To get singles started, MSU won on court No. 2. On court No. 3, the Bulldogs picked up a victory to take a 3-0 lead. No. 72 Stijn Slump defeated No. 78 Nemanja Malesevic 6-4, 6-2 on court No. 1 to give the Blue Raiders their first point of the match. On court No. 4, Marcel Kamrowski tallied a 6-2, 6-7 (9), 6-4 win to cut the MSU lead to 3-2. The Bulldogs would clinch the match on court No. 5 winning in the third-set tiebreak.
"It's tough," said MTSU Head Coach Jimmy Borendame. "The goal was to make the Sweet 16. When you look at all the adversity we faced throughout the year, I mean we started the season with eight players and we ended the season with six. Those six to me I would do anything for those guys. They fought like crazy. I am just really proud of their effort. We were right there. It doesn't dampen the season. Four championships for those seniors is just incredible. I'm a proud coach."
