MTSU set for the Patriot Invite on Friday and Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team is heading to the Patriot Invite in Fairfax, Va. On Friday, September 15, the Blue Raiders have a double-header facing George Mason at 11 a.m. CT and Seattle at 3 p.m. CT. The George Mason match will be live streamed on ESPN+. On Saturday, September 16, MTSU will take on UAlbany at 10 a.m. CT. Live stats will be provided for the Seattle and UAlbany matches.
The Blue Raiders are currently on a five-match win streak. MTSU took down No. 25 Auburn 3-1 on Thursday. It was the first top-25 win for the program since 2010. The Blue Raiders would defeat Mercer and Charleston Southern to win the Tiger Invitational Championship.
Senior Taylor Eisert had an impressive weekend. She recorded 141 assists, 30 digs and four service aces. The Louisville, Ky. native was tabbed Conference USA Setter of the Week for the second straight week and won TSWA Volleyball Player of the Week. Eisert set a new career-high in assists with 63 against Mercer on Friday.
Redshirt senior Kayla Henley leads the team in kills with 98 averaging 3.38 per set. Junior Laure Jansen has been tremendous on both sides of the ball tallying 79 kills and 79 digs. Graduate Student Kaylee Oscarson set a career-high in kills earning 17 against Mercer and has a hitting percentage of .410 so far this season.
Scouting the George Mason Patriots
The George Mason Patriots are 4-5 on the season. In the last match, the Patriots defeated the Radford Highlanders 3-0. George Mason returns five players from last year's team. The Patriots have added two transfers and two freshmen.
On offense, graduate transfer from Santa Clara, Nani Spaar, leads the team in kills with 127 earning 3.85 per set. Redshirt sophomore Damiana Bova-Ford has 179 assists.
On defense, graduate transfer from Siena, Gracie Halley, has recorded 157 digs averaging 4.62 per set. Freshman Chelsea Colter leads the team in blocks with 27.
This is the first meeting between MTSU and George Mason.
Scouting the Seattle Redhawks
The Seattle Redhaks are 3-5 so far on the season. The Redhawks fell to Montana State 0-3 in the last match. Seattle returns 12 from last year's squad. The Redhawks added two transfers as well as two freshmen to this year's team.
On offense, junior Arianna Bilby is averaging 4.21 kills per set and has 122 kills on the season. Redshirt freshman Elif Teksoy has 276 assists.
On defense, junior Katlyn Sipes has recorded 109 digs earning 3.76 per set. Sophomore Marley Hardgrave has 19 blocks on the season.
This will be the second meeting between MTSU and Seattle. The Redhawks won in 2015 3-1.
Scouting the UAlbany Great Danes
The UAlbany Great Danes are 2-7 on the season. In the last match, the Great Danes fell to West Virginia 0-3. UAlbany returns six players from last year. The Great Danes added four transfers and four freshmen to this year's team.
On offense, redshirt sophomore Shynelle Woronink leads the team with 77 kills. Junior Zosia Szczotkiewicz has 137 assists so far this season.
On defense, junior transfer Sthefany Carvalho has recorded 93 digs earning 3.21 per set. Redshirt freshman Gabriella Karman has tallied 20 blocks on the season averaging .80 per set.
This will be the fourth meeting between MTSU and UAlbany. The Blue Raiders picked up a 3-0 win in the last meeting in 2010.
