Middle Tennessee Splits with Virginia Tech on Opening Day of Buck Bouldin Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team claimed three wins across doubles and singles play on the opening day of the Buck Bouldin Fall Classic against the Virgina Tech Hokies at the MTSU Outdoor Tennis Facility.
Sophomores Igor Mandou Berranger and Kristian Thomas shined for the Blue Raiders in the opening match of doubles, defeating Virginia Tech's Patrik Jurina and Ryan Morgan 6-3. Rostislav
Halfinger and Shu Matsuoka featured as the No. 1 doubles pairing for Middle Tennessee, outlasted in a final point tiebreaker to the Hokies' Matt Harper and Julian Lozano.
In singles, Halfinger and Matsuoka earned the split for the Blue Raiders with a pair of wins over the Hokies' No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, with Halfinger winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Matsuoka defeated Julian Lozano 6-1 in a final set tiebreaker.
The Buck Bouldin Fall Classic will continue tomorrow morning, as the Blue Raiders take on East Tennessee State at 10 A.M. at the MTSU Outdoor Tennis Facility.
