MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following a two-match road trip out west, the Middle Tennessee women's soccer team (4-7-0, 1-2-0 CUSA) is set to begin its latest three-match homestand on Thursday in a primetime matchup with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (6-6-0, 1-2-0 CUSA) at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium at 7 P.M.
History vs. Jacksonville State
The Blue Raiders are 6-2-1 in nine previous meetings with Jacksonville State. MTSU has come away with three points in six of the previous eight matchups dating back to the 2006 season. Last season, the two teams met in Alabama, resulting in a 3-0 win for Middle Tennessee.
About Middle Tennessee
The Blue Raiders enter the week in eighth place in the Conference USA standings, as well as 1-2 in conference play.
Last week, Middle Tennessee's schedule featured a two-match road trip against UTEP and New Mexico State. The Blue Raiders earned their first conference win in El Paso with a 2-0 victory over the Miners on Thursday. MTSU later fell to the Aggies in Las Cruces on Sunday 0-1.
In the match vs. New Mexico State, the opening 45 minutes were relatively quiet in terms of scoring opportunities with just six total attempts on goal, four for New Mexico State to two from Middle Tennessee. Blue Raider goalkeeper Demi Gronauer made four stops in the first half to keep the score level at 0-0 heading into the halftime break.
Midfielder Risui Arasaki, making her fourth start this season today, and defender Emma Brown recorded the pair of chances in opening half of play, but the Blue Raiders continued to search for the match's first goal.
The second half opened similarly to the way the first half ended with the majority of play being controlled in the midfield, as well as the Blue Raiders defensive half.
Late in the second half, in the 77th and 78th minutes, leading goalscorer Manon Lebargy and Idun Kvaale, the Blue Raiders hero in the 2-0 win over UTEP on Thursday, recorded the second half's first scoring chances, forcing Aggies' goalkeeper Valerie Guha into her third and fourth saves of the afternoon.
The following chance would go to the home side 88th minute, as New Mexico State midfielder Meredith Scott would slot home the opening goal of the match, as well as what would be the winner for the Aggies.
The final whistle would blow with New Mexico State leading 1-0, claiming their seventh win of the 2024 season and their second in Conference USA play.
The two sides were separated only by Scott 88th minute winner, as the Conference USA foes featured similar numbers in shots, shots on goal, saves, fouls and corner kicks.
The Blue Raiders could not find the back of the net in Las Cruces on 10 total shots, including four that required a save from Guha. Along with Gronauer, midfielder Megan Carroll and defenders Sascha Nielsen and Brown played the entire 90 minutes for Middle Tennessee.
