MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's basketball program has added two talented players for the 2025-26 season, head coach Nick McDevitt announced Saturday afternoon. Charvez Ambrose, a junior college transfer from Walters State Community College, and Jax Howard, a high school addition from the Webb School, will join the Blue Raiders next season.
Charvez Ambrose | G | 6'6 | Walters State CC | Bartlett HS | Memphis, Tenn.
A Tennessee native, Ambrose is a combo guard currently playing at Walters State Community College. In his freshman season, he appeared in 32 contests, averaging 7.2 points per game while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor. He led the Senators to become regional champions, as well as wins at the JA48 Invite and JA16 Champions Invite. Ambrose came off the bench in the first round of the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Tournament against Daytona State and added a couple of points to aid in the first victory for Walters State in the tournament since 2010.
He attended Bartlett High School for his secondary years, and was named Co-Player of the Year in his sophomore season, as well as earned MVP at a showcase that featured seven five-star recruits. Ambrose helped lead Bartlett to become regional champions during his junior season. He plans to major in physical education when he arrives to Murfreesboro.
"We are really excited about adding Vez to the Blue Raider basketball family," said Coach McDevitt. "He has the size, athleticism and skill set to play all three guard positions at his level. His high basketball IQ and versatility will serve well in our program."
Jax Howard | G | 6'1 | The Webb School | Bell Buckle, Tenn.
Howard is a local standout, running point for The Webb School just down the road from Murfreesboro. The Bell Buckle, Tenn., native helped lead his team to become regional runners-up in his junior season, as well as advance to the Elite Eight of the state tournament. He was named to the all-district team in his junior year and competed at the Battle for Nashville with The Webb School during his senior campaign.
In his opening season with The Webb School, he was also voted to the All-District and All-Tournament teams. Howard intends to major in business at Middle Tennessee and currently plays club basketball with the Pro One team.
"We're really happy that Jax has decided to join our program," said Coach McDevitt. "He brings a level of toughness and a strong work ethic that all good teams must have."
