Lady Raiders set to host Lady Flames

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee will square off against Liberty for the first time in program history this Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Murphy Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on the Blue Raider Network and broadcast on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY
» This marks the first meeting in series history between the Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders and Liberty Lady Flames.
LADY RAIDER NOTES
» Savannah Wheeler graduated this December with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Integrated Studies and plans to pursue another degree in Health and Human Performance.
» With a pair of triples against GCU, Wheeler became just the 16th player in CUSA history to eclipse 200 career made three-point field goals.
» With four three-point field goals against Sam Houston, Courtney Whitson became the all-time record holder at Middle Tennessee with 260.
» The Lady Raiders are coming off a pair of dominant 80-48 win over WKU. This marked the most lopsided win over the Lady Toppers in program history.
» With 18 points against the Miners, Savannah Wheeler became the 10th player in Conference USA history to eclipse 2,000 career points.
» With 13 free throws against the Aggies, Wheeler became the CUSA all-time leader in career free throws made with 579.
» With eight points against the Aggies, Jalynn Gregory became just the 34th Lady Raider to eclipse 1,000 career points.
» With a career-high eight triples against the Gamecocks, Jalynn Gregory became the 17th player in CUSA history to eclipse 200 career made three-pointers. She joins Savannah Wheeler and Courtney Whitson as the only Lady Raiders to accomplish that feat.
» Boldyreva currently leads the league and ranks fifth in the nation with 66 blocks on the season.
» Middle Tennessee became just the 25th school in NCAA Division I women's basketball history and the third in Conference USA to reach 1,000 program wins on Thursday, Nov. 9 when the Lady Raiders defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers 93-48.
» The 2023-24 roster boasts seven international players: Jada Grannum (Canada); Dora Van Rijs (Hungary); Anastasiia Boldyreva, Iullia Grabovskaia and Stanislava Kabernick (Russia); Sifa Ineza (Rwanda); Zahira Arizmendi Rubio(Spain). Entering this season the Lady Raiders have only had 10 international players in program history.
» Head Coach Rick Insell has led the Lady Raiders to 17 consecutive post-seasons. He has tallied a 450-155 record at his alma mater.
SCOUTING THE LADY FLAMES
» Riding a season-best four-game winning streak, Liberty (10-13, 5-3 CUSA) will open the second half of CUSA play on Thursday with its first-ever visit to conference-leading Middle Tennessee (17-4, 7-0 CUSA).
» The Lady Flames (4-game winning streak) and Lady Raiders (7-game winning streak) are CUSA's two hottest teams entering the week.
» Liberty's 87-68 home win over UTEP on Saturday marked the Lady Flames' 11th straight February win, giving Carey Green a 160-24 record during the month.
» Bella Smuda scored a career-high 27 points (19 after halftime) against UTEP, helping her become Liberty's first CUSA Player of the Week on Monday. She is only 26 points away from becoming Liberty's 21st 1,000-point scorer.
» Asia Boone set career highs for points (19) and three-pointers (6) vs. UTEP, leading to her seventh CUSA Freshman of the Week honor.
» Two days after racking up a career-high 20 points against New Mexico State, Jordan Hodges dished out a career-best and Liberty Arena-record 10 assists against UTEP, the most helpers by a Lady Flame in 11 years.
» MTSU Assistant Coach Kim Brewton played three seasons at Liberty (1997-2000). Her final year was under Head Coach Carey Green - his first season.
