Blue Raider win Home opener by run-rule

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball (5-12) gets the win in the home opener over Detroit Mercy (0-5). Kamryn Carcich held the Titans to just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
The Titans scratched a run across early on a two-out double to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Ava Tepe led off with a bunt single for MTSU in the bottom of the third for the second hit of the game. The Blue Raiders couldn't capitalize and were held scoreless for three straight innings.
Amaya Harris and Julia Garcia both singled to start the fourth inning. Harris came in to score on a well-executed first-and-third play to tie the game at one. MTSU would eventually score four runs in in the fourth on a two-run home run by Tepe for her second hit of the game.
Another three runs in the fifth increased the Blue Raider lead 7-1. Harris delivered a single that scored Echols who led off with a double. Garcia picked up her third hit of the game on a double to right field that scored Harris.
MTSU closed out the game in the bottom of sixth with a run-rule victory. Harris delivered her third hit of the game, a two-run double that scored Julia Sitterding and Echols for 9-1 lead.
"I knew I had to keep the momentum going for my team and was just focused on scoring Ansley after she hit a triple," said Tepe.
Carcich started in the circle in the home opener throwing 6.0 innings allowing just one run in the run-rule victory.
By the Numbers
· 12 – game hitting streak for Amaya Harris and 3-4 tonight
· 3-3 – at the plate for both Tepe and Garcia
· 7 – Strikeouts by Carcich just one short of her career-high
