Blue Raiders drop series finale 8-3 on Sunday

EL PASO, Texas – Middle Tennessee softball (11-15) dropped its opening conference series with UTEP (16-6) this weekend with a loss Sunday.
UTEP jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring six runs. Ajia Richard hit an RBI double to score the first run of the game followed by a three-run homerun.
The Blue Raiders were able to get two runs back in the top of the second. Lexi Medlock would hit a two-run homerun to score Ashlee Jacoway who was hit by a pitch. The third homerun of the year for the Murfreesboro native.
After a scoreless third and fourth inning for both teams, MTSU threatened in the fifth with a pair of two-out hits but came up empty keeping it 6-2 in favor of the Miners.
UTEP would plate another run in both the fifth and the sixth to extend the lead 8-2.
Needing a six-run seventh inning, the Blue Raiders were unable to overcome the deficit to drop the final game of the series 8-3. Shelby Echols singled to score Ava Brooks in the seventh inning.
Kamryn Carcich started in the circle but wasn't able to get out of the first inning. Mary Martinez would enter the game and throw 6.0 innings.
