FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program wrapped up the first day of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends club, shooting 292 (+4), to finish T14 after round one. The Blue Raiders tallied 14 birdies during the first round, but struggled with big numbers on holes 1-9.
Leading the way for the Blue Raiders was none other than Ella Manley, who, in her first tournament this season in the No. 1 spot, shot a collegiate-low 69 (-3) on the first 18 holes. The sophomore, who set the freshman scoring average record a season ago, bogeyed just once on her front nine and carded four birdies on her front nine to finish at T12 on the day. Her lowest career round prior to today was a 70, which she had accomplished twice last season.
Abbie Lee followed behind her, turning in a 73 (+1) after the round. The senior tallied four birdies throughout the day, including back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight to close out the round at T58.
Lanie Campbell also had a good day on the green, shooting just 74 (+2) and dropping in two birdies. To start the day off, she shot her first nine holes of the round at par before adding some variety in her final nine to end at T64 overall.
Kendall Maynard had a tough opening round, going 76 (+4) on the first day of the Mason Rudolph. Struggling to find a consistent rhythm, she carded three birdies, placing T74 overall.
Nicole Johnson shot a relatively clean round, but a double bogey at hole four and a quadruple at hole five put her at 80 (+8) on the day.
Wamsley's Words
"Super excited for Ella, coming off a great tournament last weekend and backing it up today at three-under-par," said head coach Lauren Wamsley. "Going four under on her back nine is fantastic, she's in a really good spot going into tomorrow.
As a team, I think collectively we left some putts out there that we're excited to go out and get tomorrow. Overall, we know we left some scores out there today that we're going to go work on and get ready for tomorrow."
