Blue Raiders Travel to Nashville for Weekend Matchup Against Vanderbilt

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team (3-3-0) looks to complete its two-match road stretch unbeaten, as the Blue Raiders take on the Vanderbilt Commodores (3-0-2) in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
History vs. Vanderbilt
The Blue Raiders are 1-7 against the Commodores a in program history. The in-state rivalry was renewed last season in a neutral site match at GEODIS Park, which resulted in a 6-0 win for the black and gold.
MTSU's lone win over Vanderbilt came during the 2021 season in the form of a 2-1 win on the road in Nashville on the back of a Peyton DePreist brace and winner in the 87th minute.

Following a 6-2 rout of Bellarmine as the calendar flipped to September, Middle Tennessee earned its second consecutive victory on Thursday with a 5-0 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at the Bulldog Soccer Field in Huntsville, Ala.
The win against Alabama A&M returned Middle Tennessee to .500 on the season with an overall record of 3-3 entering the weekend, and less than two weeks prior to the start of Conference USA play on Sept. 19 against FIU.
Midfielders Manon Lebargy and Yana Yordanova both helped propel the Blue Raiders to their second win in five days with both players recording a brace, the fourth of Lebargy's career and the first for Yordanova.
For the fifth time in six outings this season, MTSU got on the board first with Lebargy opening the scoring with her fourth goal of the season in the 3rd minute, coming off a Lauren Spaanstra assist.
Freshman Aireona Duenez doubled the Middle Tennessee advantage with her first career goal less than three minutes prior to the halftime whistle, set up by defender Sadie Sterbenz, her third assist in the last two matches.
Just over eight minutes into the second half, Yordanova added a third, unassisted goal to the road tally, as well as her first goal of the season, in the 54th minute.
Yordanova completed her brace in the 64th minute with her second unassisted goal of the afternoon, putting the Blue Raiders up 4-0 with 25 minutes remaining in the match.
Goalkeeper Demi Gronauer was forced into making her first save of the day in the 66th minute from a shot by Alabama A&M's Jasmine Perez-Acosta. She would be required to make two more saves down the stretch in the 70th and 75th minutes, maintaining the 4-0 for the Blue Raiders.
20 minutes later, Lebargy completed her brace with her fifth goal of 2024 and the 15th of her career, sealing a 5-0 win in Huntsville for MTSU. Sophomore Oliva Norton came up with the assist on the final goal, her first career goal contribution.
Middle Tennessee completed their 5-0 win on the road with five goals on a total of 19 opportunities, including 13 shots on target.
The Blue Raiders will look to improve their overall record to 4-3 with a win on Sunday in Nashville, which would propel them over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Vanderbilt enters the weekend unbeaten through the opening five matches of the 2024 season. In their previous outings, the Commodores have defeated Belmont, Saint Mary's and Columbia, all in home efforts, and earned a pair of scoreless draws against No. 21 Georgetown and Kansas.
Vanderbilt is led by head coach Darren Ambrose, who enters his 10th season at the helm in Nashville, leading the Dores to a 98-57-23 overall record during his tenure.
