FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the official kickoff to the 2025 spring season, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (0-1) fell to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (1-0) 5-2 at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Blue Raiders kicked off their season opener for 2025 with a strong start, winning two of the three doubles matches and claiming the opening double point. Alessia Truden and Rutuja Chaphalkar earned the first point of the match with a 6-4 victory in the No. 2 seed and Cassidy Mataia and Ilaria Sposetti sealed the clinching point with a 6-3 win over FGCU's Paloma Goldsmith and Nora Svensson in the No. 3 seed.

Chaphalkar earned the one singles point for Middle Tennessee by defeating the Eagles' Goldsmith in three-sets 6-1, 6-7, 1-0. Southern Miss transfer Zenn Lim narrowly missed out on her first career representing MTSU, losing to FGCU's Svensson in a three-set thriller.
Quote from Coach Bailey-Duvall
"It was a tough start to the season against a FGCU team, that we knew would be good. We had good results in doubles, which I am very happy with. Overall, the girls performed solid in singles, we just have to get a little more settled into our games, then the tough matches will go our way. Looking forward to a good match tomorrow against Minnesota.
Next Up
The Blue Raiders will conclude their trip to Fort Myers, Fla. tomorrow with a matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers starting at 8 a.m. CT.
