PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Middle Tennessee women's golf great Hanley Long finished as the runner-up at the 2025 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. Her final match, in which she fell in 23 holes, marked the longest in U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship history.
The Clarksville, Tenn., native finished T45 in the stroke play section of the tournament and quickly made her way through the match play bracket. While she played a trio of close matches in the opening three rounds, she swiftly advanced through the quarterfinals at 5-and-4 before dominating the semifinals with a 6-and-4 win over Shannon Fish-Martin to advance to the finals for the first time.
With her finish, Long received a silver medal, an exemption into the next three U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championships and a spot in the upcoming U.S. Women's Amateur. The 27-year-old competed in the tournament last season, exiting in the Round of 32.
"I know I can at least make it to the finals, so that counts for something. I think the biggest takeaway from this week in being in this position and taking it as far as I did," said Long. "That definitely builds on some momentum going into next year, but definitely ready for a golf break."
Long competed for the Blue Raiders from 2015 to 2019, totaling 113 rounds played while averaging a program-best 74.27 scoring average throughout her career. She helped guide the Blue Raiders two three tournament wins in her time while leaving Murfreesboro with program records for career stroke average, 54-hole total (206) and single season rounds of par or better (12). In her final season, Long was named Conference USA Golfer of the Year and her fourth career All-Conference selection with her second consecutive First Team nod.
