MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Perhaps the group that has seen the most consistency from last year is the forwards position group for the Blue Raiders. With two returners and just one newcomer, head coach Nick McDevitt will be expecting a lot from the group.
Entering his third year on the Middle Tennessee roster, Torey Alston is fresh off the 2024-25 campaign that saw him named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. He tallied eight double-figure scoring games while averaging 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in his first season on the court as a Blue Raider, also earning two double-doubles. Blue Raider fans can expect a lot of the same style of play from the now-redshirt-sophomore, while also seeing a big step forward as a leader. Alston is still the high-flying player he was a year ago, just with a higher maturity level as a vocal leader on the court. The 6-9 Durham, N.C., native has stepped up his rebounding with an increased level of athleticism, aided by his length.
Another familiar face in the forwards group is Kamari Lands, who just earned a nod to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. The rising senior transferred in last season from Arizona State and made an immediate impact, amassing 10 double-digit scoring games in 22 appearances. Though he missed over half of the conference season with an injury, his preseason selection shows that CUSA coaches recognize Lands' ability to be a dynamic scorer at all three levels. As a senior in this program, the coaching staff will look to him to be a consistent leader for all those around him. The Indianapolis, Ind., native stands at 6-8, weighing 230 pounds, so he serves as what the coaches call a "cheat code" at the three and four positions with a strong shooting ability from behind the arc.
The newest face to the forwards group is transfer Savon Wykle. Wykle joined the program this summer, transferring in from University of Missouri at Saint Louis as a graduate student. Last year at UMSL, he made 33 appearances on 32 starts while averaging 11.7 points, 3.85 rebounds and 1.64 assists. A native of Smyrna, Tenn., he is known as a knock down shooter who will take a high volume of three point shots, shooting 33 percent from deep a season ago. The shortest of the forwards, he is 6-5, 200 pounds, which gives him the ability to guard and play numerous positions from the shooting guard all the way up to the power forward. Wykle plays very solid ball on both ends of the court with an unwillingness to let opponents get a look at any shot they want to take.
