MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders hosted Missouri State to kick off the week, securing a 6-1 victory to extend their winning streak to six matches.
In doubles, Middle Tennessee jumped out in front on all courts, breaking early in their matchups. Cassidy Mataia and Zenn Lim were the first to finish, defeating Nicol Ross and Romy Pols 6-2. The clinching win came on court two, where Alessia Truden and Rutuja Chaphalkar claimed a 6-2 victory, improving their season record to 9-1.
Chaphalkar kept the momentum going in singles play, quickly dispatching her opponent 6-0, 6-1 to secure the first singles point. On court two, Lena Peyer followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Billie Gonlusen.
Mataia continued the Blue Raiders' strong performance on court four, winning 6-1, 6-1 to move her record to 4-3 this season. Truden finished shortly after, earning a 6-0, 6-2 victory for her seventh win of the year and putting Middle Tennessee up 5-0. Eloise Swarbrick added another straight-set win, defeating her Missouri State opponent 6-4, 6-4.
The final match of the day featured Lim, who battled back after dropping the first set to force a third-set, 10-point tiebreak. Despite a hard-fought effort and strong support from her teammates, she fell 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
With the win, the Blue Raiders improved to 8-3 overall, extended their winning streak to six matches, and remained unbeaten at home with a 7-0 record.
Thoughts From Coach Tayo
"Today we played well, and I am happy with our performance against a future conference team. After dealing with some injuries and changes in our lineup, it is good to see our players step up and continue to perform at a high level. We look forward to a short break in competition to rest and get some quality practice in before our match against FIU."
