Blue Raiders through opening round at Puerto Rico Shootout

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – The Middle Tennessee women's golf team got off to a difficult start at the Puerto Rico Shootout, wrapping up the first round sitting tied for 11th. The lineup shot 306 (+18) in the opening round of the tournament.
Abbie Lee leads the team through 18 holes, shooting a 74 (+2) on the day. She hit the turn shooting a 37 (+1) and yielded the same result on her back nine, tallying three birdies in the opening round. She is tied for 23rd in the tournament.
Caroline Pardue and Ella Manley are both tied for second on the team, shooting a 77 (+5) in round one. Pardue shot better in her opening nine holes, only at 37 (+1) at the turn, but struggled to find a rhythm on her final nine, wrapping up at 40 (+4). The round matches the freshman's best round of her collegiate career. Manley carded a team-high four birdies, but struggled with big numbers, also adding two double bogeys. Her best stretch came from holes 15 through three, turning in three holes at par and four birdies.
Lanie Campbell sits tied for 58th through 18, turning in a 78 (+6) on her scorecard for the day. She struggled to start, carding a trio of bogeys and a double, but found her stride at her eighth hole played, tallying six-straight holes at par, followed by a pair of birdies. She turned in her final nine at par to finish fourth on the team.
Jillian Bowman wraps up the team lineup, shooting a 79 (+7). While she hit the turn at 35 (-1), she struggled in her final nine, only turning in two holes at par, with the rest at bogey or higher. She finished with three birdies on the day.
The lone individual for the Blue Raiders, Nicole Johnson, shot a perfect front nine, turning in each hole at par. Her consistency wavered in her back nine, carding a 78 (+6) to place T58th on the day.
The team will tee off for the second round at 6:30 a.m. CT and will be mostly paired with Boston College and Ball State Individuals. Johnson will be paired with individuals from UNCG and Boston College.
