HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program had a stellar second round at the Puerto Rico Shootout Wednesday, jumping two places to sit at ninth going into the final round. The team shot 294 (+6) on the day to sit at 600 overall, just four shots behind the team in eighth.
After a stellar clean round, Abbie Lee jumped 13 places to sit at T10 after 36 holes. The senior was one of three Blue Raiders to shoot at par on the day, carding just one bogey and a birdie. Through the two rounds, Lee has shot a 146 (+2) as she hunts for her first top-10 finish of the season.
Caroline Pardue shot a collegiate career low in round two, also turning in a round at par. The freshman bogeyed hole 15, but quickly found her way back, earning a birdie just five holes later to finish at 72 for the day. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native rose 22 spots to finish at T28 through two days.
Sophomore Ella Manley had an up-and-down start to the second round but eventually found her footing towards the end of the round. She shot her second eagle of the season on hole 16 and followed that up with two birdies in the final five holes to round out the day at 75 (+3). Manley sits at T40 overall, shooting 152 (+8).
Lanie Campbell had a more consistent round compared to the opening 18, carding a 75 (+3) in round two. Her final six holes were all at par and she tacked on a birdie just prior to the turn, climbing 11 spots to T47 (+9).
Jillian Bowman carded 12 holes at par and a birdie but struggled with big numbers down the final stretch of the day. She finished round two at 78 (+6) to sit at 157 (+13) overall, T65 in the player leaderboard.
As an individual player, Nicole Johnson tallied her third round at par or better this season with a 72. While her even round wasn't as clean as Lee or Pardue, she consistently found a way to bounce back from her lone two bogeys of the round, shooting a birdie shortly after to get back to par. She boasts the third-largest jump of any player on the leaderboard, jumping to T34, 150 (+6).
The Blue Raiders will look to continue to improve in the final round Thursday, teeing off at 6:30 a.m. CT. The team will be paired with Little Rock and Memphis for the last 18 holes of the tournament.
