Blue Raiders through first round at Conference USA Championships

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf team completed its first round at the Conference USA Championships Monday at the World Golf Village. The Blue Raiders finished in fifth place after 18 holes, shooting a 292 (+4).
Nicole Johnson was the low finisher for MTSU, carding a round at par to open the tournament. The sophomore sits tied for ninth place overall after tallying a perfect front nine without bogeys and then dropping in two birdies on the back nine to finish at 72.
Jillian Bowman and Lanie Campbell rank 14th through the first 18 holes of the event, both turning in a 73 (+1). Bowman played a strong front nine, with eight holes at par and one bogey, while dropping in four birdies on the back nine. Campbell spread out her birdies throughout the 18 holes, tallying one on the front nine and two on the back for a round one-over-par.
Abbie Lee had a strong start to the day, carding three-consecutive birdies to score a one-under-par at the turn. The back nine proved more difficult for the senior, completing the round at 74 (+2) to sit in 19th overall.
Ella Manley tallied a team-high four birdies on the day, but struggled with some bigger numbers, wrapping up her opening round at 76 (+4) to place in 28th after the first day.
The team will be paired Western Kentucky and Kennesaw State for round two, with tee times starting at 7:15 a.m. CT.
