MTSU riding historic streak into matchup with Lipscomb on Wednesday

Blue Raiders hold a streak of 21 consecutive games with at least one home run
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball will host Lipscomb on Wednesday, April 9, for a midweek clash at Blue Raider Softball Field.
The Blue Raiders (18-21, 7-8 CUSA) handed No. 24 Liberty its first Conference USA loss of the season on Friday, April 4, snapping the Flames' 12-game home winning streak. In the win, Jana Want smashed two three-run home runs, totaling six RBIs—tied for the most in a single game in MTSU program history. The mark also tied the record at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. Leila Ammon delivered a strong performance in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run before Mary Martinez closed out the game in the seventh.
Middle Tennessee is currently riding a streak of 21 consecutive games with at least one home run—an historic achievement. The team has hit 45 home runs this season, setting a new single-season program record with several weeks remaining. That mark ranks 33rd nationally.
With a 7-8 record in CUSA play, the Blue Raiders are currently tied for sixth place in the conference standings. They've already faced the top three teams and four of the top five in the league, looking to capitalize on the remaining schedule with four weeks left in the regular season.
Several Blue Raiders rank among the best in the conference statistically. Macie Harter leads CUSA with five triples, ranking 11th nationally and closing in on the MTSU single-season record of six. Ava Tepe leads the conference in hit-by-pitches with nine—41st in the nation—and is just one shy of tying the program's career record of 37.
In CUSA play, Ansley Blevins leads all players with nine home runs and 24 RBIs through 15 games. Jana Want leads the league with 19 runs scored during conference action.
Scouting the opponent
Lipscomb – The 2025 Lipscomb softball team enters Wednesday's game with a 19-19 overall record and a 6-6 mark in ASUN play. Middle Tennessee holds a 15-14 all-time advantage over the Bisons, including a 4-3 win in last year's matchup in Nashville. The Bisons are led by head coach Kristin Ryman, who took the helm in 2006 and has since amassed over 500 career wins. Offensively, Alyssa Hastings has been a standout, hitting .426 and leading the team in both doubles and home runs. In the circle, Laine Barefoot anchors the staff with a 3.64 ERA and a team-best 10 wins.
