Cross Country heads to Huntsville for Southern Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Middle Tennessee cross country heads south to Huntsville, Alabama, to face off in the Southern Showcase Friday, Sept. 12.
The Blue Raider men's cross country squad put together a statement performance two weeks ago at the Memphis Twilight Classic, claiming the top two spots and landing six runners in the top 30, putting together a second-place finish.
Competing in the 8-kilometer race are seven "Power Four" teams and three Conference USA teams for the Blue Raiders to race in a highly competitive 50-team meet.
Brian Kiptoo and Allan Kiplagat have their sights set on a first-place finish after coming in sixth and seventh place a year ago on the same course.
On the women's side, the team opened the 2025 season with a strong showing, placing six runners inside the top 40 to grab third place.
In the 5-kilometer race, the women will be competing against 54 teams, including nine "Power Four" teams and four conference opponents.
Faith Nyathi came in third place in the race last year as an unattached runner, and Odilia Jepchumba finished sixth in her first collegiate race in 2024.
This will be the first of three meets at the John Hunt Park Cross Country Course, with the remaining two being the Conference USA Championship and NCAA South Regional Championship
.
The weather at the course looks favorable for MTSU, with temperatures staying around 70 degrees and sunny at race time.
The men will run first at 7:30 a.m., followed by the women an hour later at 8:30 a.m.
