CORINTH, Texas – In the opening day of the season, the Middle Tennessee women's golf team saw numerous feats enter the record book, including the program record for the lowest team round after shooting a 279 (-9) in the second round of the Sam Golden Invitational.
The Blue Raiders rank 10th in the field, carding a 290 (+2) in the opening round before turning in a program-best 279 in the afternoon. The mark bests the previous record, last set in 2022 at the Evie Odom Invitational, by two shots and is the best second round for Middle Tennessee since the 2015 Conference USA Championships.
Ella Manley paced the Blue Raiders through the two rounds of the day in Dallas, bouncing back after a difficult first round where she shot a 74 (+2). The junior tied the second-lowest individual round in program history, firing a clean 66 (-6). She tallied six birdies in her final 18 holes of the day, keeping her second round completely bogey-free, to sit in 12th overall (140).
Just a few strokes behind Manley sits Isabella Johnson and Caroline Pardue, tied for 35th at 143. Both sophomores set career lows on the day, with Pardue's coming in the first round. She recorded a 69 (-3) with just one bogey in her first round of the season after only accumulating one round at or below par last season. She shot a 74 (+2) in the second round, tallying four birdies in the afternoon session. Johnson carded the exact opposite of Pardue, shooting a 74 (+2) in the morning round and a 69 (-3) in the second. The second round score also represents her lowest collegiate round, besting her previous low by three shots in her first tournament as a Blue Raider.
The career lows continued down the lineup as Jillian Bowman recorded her first round below par at 70 (-2) in the second round, shooting a 74 (+2) in the first round as well. The junior carded four birdies on the day, playing relatively clean throughout the rounds to sit in 42nd place (144).
Nicole Johnson rounded out the Blue Raiders on the day, tallying a 73 (+1) and 77 (+5) in the first and second rounds respectively. She turned in four birdies on the opening day of the competition, ranking 66th in the tournament field.
Wamsley's Words
"I am very proud of how this team was able to bounce back in the second half of the day to make Blue Raider history," said head coach Lauren Wamsley. "It's great seeing so many of the girls shoot below par and set new lows for themselves. We need to continue pushing tomorrow and play our best golf to wrap up this tournament on a high note."
