Middle Tennessee edges Sam Houston 68–67 in CUSA

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Middle Tennessee (10-8, 5-1 CUSA) narrowly defeated Sam Houston (11-5, 4-1 CUSA) with a score of 68–67 on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
The Blue Raiders overcame an early deficit and took control in the second half, outscoring the Bearkats 23–17 in the third quarter, which contributed to the momentum in a game that featured eight lead changes.
Contreras recorded 7 of 11 shooting from the field and made four 3-pointers for Middle Tennessee, which achieved an overall shooting percentage of 49.1% and went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. Macie Phifer contributed 15 points, while Savannah Davis added 11 points.
Sam Houston led 38–32 at halftime and established a 12-point advantage midway through the second quarter before Middle Tennessee staged a 9–0 run to narrow the score. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 55–55.
Middle Tennessee had a distinct advantage with 30 points in the paint and forced 17 turnovers from Sam Houston. The Blue Raiders maintained their lead in the closing minutes and secured the win despite Sam Houston's efforts at the free-throw line.

"We played tough all the way through. We got down 12 points and we were able to get back in the game. We had some people that really just toughed it up. Just really toughed it up. I'm really proud of them."
