Blue Raiders blast four home runs in battle with Flames

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball (12-13, 3-3 CUSA) fell in a game three battle against Liberty (11-15, 4-2 CUSA) by a score of 8-6 at the Blue Raider Softball Field.
The game began with no hits by either team in the first frame; Liberty jumping out to a three-run lead in the second inning. The Flames put up one more run in the top of the third, but the Blue Raiders responded with two runs of their own; a home run off the bat of Jana Want and a triple from Ansley Blevins that was brought to the plate by a Liberty error.
The next inning and a half were scoreless before Middle Tennessee caught fire at the plate. The Blue Raiders had a three-home run inning off the bats of Kennedy Chatman, Adaeze Nwogbo and Lexi Medlock to take a 6-4 lead, Nwogbo's long ball the first of her career. Liberty responded with two home runs of their own to take the lead back, Middle Tennessee entering the seventh inning down two runs by a score of 8-6.
Tori Coffman held the Flames to no runs in the top of the seventh, giving the Blue Raiders a chance to win it at the plate in the bottom of the inning. Middle Tennessee had two runners in scoring position with just one out but ultimately left them stranded to end the game by a final score of 8-6 in favor of Liberty.
Braelyn Hall got the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders, pitching 3.1 innings before Mary Martinez entered the game in relief. Martinez pitched 2.1 innings and recorded the loss before Tori Coffman entered the game and pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
