Drew Shea is in his 14th year at Middle Tennessee, serving as the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine/Director of Sports Medicine. Prior to be named Assistant AD, he served as the head athletic trainer for the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team for eight seasons and previous to MT, Shea was the head athletic trainer for the LSU men's basketball for seven seasons.
Shea was promoted to director of sports medicine at Middle Tennessee in August 2008. He oversees all aspects of the athletic training operation.
Shea is primarily responsible for the men's and women's golf and tennis programs, but he also treats athletes in many of Middle Tennessee's other 17 sports. Most recently, Shea has taken on the responsibility of athletic game operations supervisor for the women’s soccer team, serving as the liason between the athletic department and the team.
He leads the assessment, evaluation, and rehabilitation of all Division I intercollegiate athletes at Middle Tennessee. Other responsibilities include education of graduate and NATA-accredited undergraduate curriculum students, managing and maintaining all inventories, supervising the athletic training room, and various administrative duties.
Shea served as student athletic trainer during his undergraduate days at West Virginia. His primary responsibilities were with the soccer and football squads. He also served as head student athletic trainer for baseball in 1987.
Following his graduation in July 1987, Shea began a nine-year association with Morgantown Physical Therapy Associates.
There he served as clinical athletic trainer, where he was responsible for providing daily patient care in a sports medicine/general orthopedic physical therapy clinic.
On the professional level, he served in the spring of 1992 as the co-head athletic trainer for the Frankfurt Galaxy Football Club of the World League of American Football in Germany.
Shea returned to West Virginia in 1996 to work on his master's degree. While there, he served as head athletic trainer for the 1996-97 women's gymnastics team and the 1997-97 women's basketball team and performed other athletic related duties.
Shea has authored many professional presentations at various conferences and has served as a Special Olympics volunteer. He is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
Drew and his wife Lori are the parents of three children: Alexandra (21), Madison (20), and MacKenzie (18).
