Softball to host two former OVC rivals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee softball team will play host to two mid-week doubleheaders against former Ohio Valley Conference rivals on Wednesday and Thursday at Blue Raider Field. Wednesday's doubleheader will see the Blue Raiders take on Tennessee State with Thursday's match-up set to take place against UT-Martin.
MT enters the week with a record of 15-23 overall, 5-13 in Sun Belt play. Currently the team is on a four-game losing streak and will look to get back into the win column against two their former OVC foes. Wednesday's doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. with Thursday's games starting at 3 p.m. Admission is free to all.
Lindsey Vander Lugt continues to lead Middle Tennessee with a pitching record of 14-14 and 2.75 ERA. She has 145 strikeouts in 165.2 innings. The senior currently ranks in NCAA's top five lowest allowed walks per game.
Corrie Abel holds the Blue Raiders' top season batting average, .325, on 39 hits. Natalie Ysais lead the team with 19 RBIs.
Ysais hit five RBIs, three doubles, one home run with a .389 average in five games last week against Memphis and Florida International.
The Blue Raiders hold a decisive 36-5 all-time record when facing Tennessee State. Last year's doubleheader saw Middle Tennessee sweeping both games in shutout fashion. The Tigers' enter Wednesday's games 11-27, 6-11 in OVC action.
UT-Martin will take the field on Thursday with a 35-7 record, 14-3 in the OVC. Middle Tennessee is 22-11-1 all-time against the Skyhawks with UTM taking the last meeting between the two schools 1-0 in 2008.
