MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program will host its annual Blue Raider Invitational this Monday through Tuesday, Oct. 20-21. The fourth annual tournament will be played at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, a par-72, 6,389-yard layout.
The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The Blue Raiders are seeking their third title in four years at the home event. MT won the inaugural tournament in 2011 and repeated in 2012, before finishing second in last year's competition.
This year's field features 16 other teams, including Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Central Arkansas, UT-Corpus Christi, Jacksonville State, Missouri State, Oral Roberts, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Troy, UAB, UALR, UMKC, UTEP and Western Kentucky.
MT is coming off a solid third-place finish in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate last week after shooting 33-over par 897. Allie Knight tied for eighth place at six-over par 222, while carding a team-low 70 (-2) in the final round. Avery George finished close behind after tying for 11th at seven-over.
The Blue Raiders rewrote the record book earlier this fall at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Missouri on Sept. 30. MT set program marks for lowest round score (281, third) and best three-round total (862). Individually, George set a tournament and program record with an eight-under par 64 during the final round.
Middle Tennessee opened the fall campaign with a tournament title in the FedEx Memphis Intercollegiate on Sept. 9. The Blue Raiders fired a 6-over par 290 in the third round and finished eight shots ahead of Memphis with an 18-over 870 at Ridgeway Country Club.
Through four tournaments this fall, MT holds a steady stroke average of 294 (+7) and is led by George (73.5) and Knight (74.0). Emily Miller (74.1), Samantha Gotcher (74.7), Maddie Denton (74.8) and Emily Williams (74.8) have also hit well this fall.
