Volleyball Concludes Road Trip at Rice

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (7-16, 3-6 C-USA) will conclude its four-game road trip on Friday at Rice at 6 p.m.

About the Blue Raiders
Weekend Recap
MT finished 1-1 over the weekend in Florida, falling to Florida Atlantic in three sets after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat FIU in five sets. Chelsea Ross led MT with 28 kills and 18 digs for her tenth double-double of the season. Senior Ailime de Freitas paced the Blue Raider with 28 assists and sophomore Bridget Keller came off the bench to contribute with two key service aces in the fifth set.
Texas Connection
LaDaisha Gillard, Haley Morton, Morgan St. Germain and Brianna Pannone make up the four freshmen on the roster that are from the state of Texas, while sophomores Jazmyne Johnson and Miri Shade also hail from the Lonestar State.
Double-Doubles for everyone
Four different players this season have recorded at least one double-double while Ross leads the team with 10 and freshman Haley Morton is second with four. De Freitas has notched two double-doubles while junior Rachel Shaughnessy has one.
Going the Distance
Eight of the Blue Raiders' matches have been decided in five sets while five of MT's seven victories have came in a deciding fifth set. In four of the victories, the Blue Raiders faced either a 2-1 or 2-0 deficit.
Approaching 200
Head coach Matt Peck is just two wins away from his 200th win at Middle Tennessee. The 11th-year head coach is 198-117 (.628) all-time and tops the list for most wins in program history.
About the Opponents
Scouting Rice (16-6, 6-2 C-USA)
The Owls have won five of their previous six contests with the only loss coming to UTSA in five sets on the road. Rice is 7-2 at home this year and has yet to lose at Tudor Fieldhouse in conference action. Five different players rank in the top five in four different categories in Conference USA. Lizzy Bache and Jillian Humphrey rank third and fourth with hitting clips at .379 and .377, respectively. Sara Blasier leads the conference in assist per set at 10.98, while Daniela Arenas stands at fifth averaging 4.23 digs per set, and Portia Okafor tops in the conference at 1.19 blocks per set.

The series between the Blue Raiders and Owls is knotted up at one apiece in the all-time series. Earlier this season, Rice defeated MT in three sets at Alumni Memorial Gym.
However, the Blue Raiders swept Rice on its home court last year.
