COLUMBIA, MO – The Middle Tennessee's women's golf team ended the final round at the Club at Old Hawthorne today tied for third place with fellow C-USA member FIU at 2-under on the par 72 course, breaking records along the way. Avery George notched a Middle Tennessee best round record 64 and as a team MT set new single-round marks (281) and three-round tournament totals (862).
Missouri won the tournament with a team score of 18-under 846 on their home course, followed closley by Kansas State's 14-under 850. Middle Tennessee and FIU tied for third with 2-under 862 with the Blue Raiders making a final push in round three, dropping seven strokes. UALR rounded out the top five with a 10-over 874 performance.
"We gave it a good run today with a lot of birdies and the low team score of the day," said head coach Chris Adams. "Avery (George) played great with nine birdies and a great team effort with Emily Miller shooting a 68 as well."
The MT team leader was Emily Miller, who finished with a 3-under 213 for seventh overall out of 83 total golfers after three rounds. George commanded the course in the third round, shooting a tournament-low 8-under 64 to finish a team second-best and she tied for 16th overall.
Samantha Gotcher followed with a 3-over 219 (T19th), Emily Williams shot a 4-over 220 (T24th) and Allie Knight had a 10-over 226 (T38) during the team portion of the invitational.
Maddie Denton competed as an individual and finished tied for 19th with a 3-over 219 total.
"This tournament should be a great motivator with two more tournaments to go this fall," Adams said. "Everyone is playing very solid and I like that fact we put three good rounds together."
Next up on the calendar for Blue Raider women's golf team is the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina, on October 13-14.
