Blue Raiders Still Win Series
NEW ORLEANS – Middle Tennessee had a tough first inning and was unable to recover in an 8-2 loss to New Orleans in the final game of a three-game series at Maestri Field Sunday.
The Blue Raiders (7-2) still won the series, 2-1, and have won three straight series to start the season. They play at Tennessee Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee pounded out 13 hits in the setback and had three players with multi-hit games. Michael Adkins was 3-for-5 with one RBI, and Brad Jarreau and Ronnie Jebavy each were 2-for-4.
Every Blue Raider in the starting lineup had at least one hit. Shortstop Dustin Delgado got a base knock in his final at-bat to extend his hit streak to eight games and his reached-base streak to 24 games.
A tough start spelled doom for Middle Tennessee. Starter Heath Slatton was roughed up for five runs, all earned, in 1-1/3 innings. After the Blue Raiders went on top 1-0 in the top of the first, Slatton was hit for five in the bottom of the frame.
Middle Tennessee's bullpen held the Privateers(5-7) in check through the middle innings to give the Blue Raiders a chance to rally. Blake Stansberry and Garrett Ring combined for 4-2/3 innings of shutout baseball but the Blue Raiders couldn't chip into the lead.
New Orleans finally broke the game open with three in the bottom of the seventh to push its lead to 8-1. Middle Tennessee tacked on a run in the ninth to account for the final score.
