Long notches top 25 finish
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee finished the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday with a 14th place finish in its second appearance in the event hosted at Vanderbilt Legends Club.
The Blue Raiders had their best round of the event on the final day, notching a 12-over par round to finish the tournament at 54-over (309-309-300=918).
"We had a better day today as a team," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We have to get more production out of the top of our lineup and we have another short turnaround before our next tournament, but we are going to keep working hard.
"We knew we had a tough tournament schedule this year, but we're going to have to dig a little bit deeper."
Sophomore Hanley Long led MT throughout all three rounds in Franklin, finishing off the championship with a 1-over 73 Sunday to card a 54-hole total of 5-over par (74-74-73=221) and land in a tie for 23rd.
"It was a pretty good showing by Hanley this weekend," Adams added. "I'm very proud of her for where she finished in a strong field."
Senior Samantha Gotcher concluded the tournament with a strong third round of 1-over 73. She finished 63rd in the field at 15-over par (78-80-73=231).
Fellow senior Lacie York landed in the middle of the Blue Raider lineup after a 6-over par performance on the final day put her at 19-over (78-79-78=235) and tied for 69th for the tournament.
Freshman Katherine Holmes notched a solid round for the second consecutive day as she went 4-over par on day three. She turned in a 20-over (84-76-76=236) for the championship, placing her tied for 72nd in just her second collegiate tournament.
Jenna Burris carded a final round 12-over on Sunday and finished the Mason Rudolph Championship at 31-over par (79-84-84=247).
Long notched one of the top scores of the day on the Par 3s at 1-under while also going even par on the Par 5s on day three and finishing the championship at 1-under on the Par 5s.
The Clarksville native also had one of the highest amounts of pars across all three days with 38 total, tied for 10th most in the field of 81.
