ATLANTA, Ga. – The Lady Raiders suffered their first loss of the season to the Ole Miss Rebels, 56-65, at the Pavilion on Nov. 29. Despite the loss, Middle Tennessee moves to a 4-1 record on the season to post the best preseason start for the Lady Raiders since 1996.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech opened its season with a 75-41 victory at Appalachian State on Nov. 10. Since recording their first win, the Ramblin' Wreck added five straight wins before the team inked its first loss of the season at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas to Baylor, 80-57.
Recently, the Yellow Jackets notched their seventh win of the season over Purdue, 68-55. Sophomore guard Francesca Pan is the offensive player to watch for Georgia Tech. Pan tallied 15 points over the Boilermakers while adding four assists and two steals.
On the defensive end, senior Imani Tilford remained aggressive on the glass over Purdue recording seven rebounds in the contest.
WNIT Rematch
The last time the Lady Raiders and the Yellow Jacket met was in third round action of the WNIT on March 23, 2017. Middle Tennessee fell to Georgia Tech, 70-57 to mark their fourth overall loss to the Yellow Jackets.
A junior at the time, Rebecca Reuter posted nine points over the Ramblin' Wreck while Abbey Sissom (8) and Kyla Allison (8) inked a combined 16 points.
National, Conference Recognition
Middle Tennessee received 12 votes in the November 28 USA Today Women's Basketball Poll to place 34th overall among Division I women's basketball competitors. The Lady Raiders have received votes each week of the poll including preseason.
In the three games since head coach Rick Insell moved senior Sissom to the point, she has 14 assists and four turnovers. Sissom is first in Conference USA in assists (5.5) and in assist-turnover ratio (5.5). Nationally, Sissom ranks fifth for assist-turnover ratio and 51st for assists.
As a team, the Lady Raiders rank 23rd nationally for field goal percentage with a .473 clip, which also leads the conference.
Last Time Out: Lady Raiders Fall to the Rebels, 56-65
Junior Jess Louro was the dominant Lady Raider on the court on Wednesday afternoon. The Wall, New Jersey native posted a career-high 19 points over the Rebels while shooting 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-10 from distance.
Similarly, junior Alex Johnson tallied 13 points during 20 minutes of action on Wednesday. Johnson was 3-of-8 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Also recording points for the Lady Raiders on Wednesday evening included senior Abbey Sissom (10), senior Rebecca Reuter (9), senior Gabby Lyon (3) and sophomore Kyla Allison (2).
