Blue Raiders start outdoor season at Georgia Tech

MT set for Yellow Jacket Invitational
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Transitioning from a championship indoor season, Middle Tennessee kicks off its outdoor season Friday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta.
Action from Georgia Tech's George C. Griffin Track will start at 9 a.m. with field events. Phillip Smith starts the day for the Blue Raiders with the men's long jump. The MT trio of Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad, Jessica Howell and Elizabeth Dadzie will follow in the women's long jump.
Howell, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad and Barbara Vilson will also be featured in the women's high jump, before Jacob Patten and Smith will cap the field events with the men's triple jump.
On the track, the men's distance trio of Jacob Choge, Geoffry Cheruiyot and Kigen Chemadi will compete in the 1500-meter run. Choge claimed the conference title in the 1500-meter during the C-USA Indoor Championships, while Chemadi took home the conference's Freshman of the Year accolades during the
Sampson Laari, who placed third in last week's NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile run, will be featured in the men's 800-meter run along with Hillary Rono and Nathan Mack.
MT's Adeniji Ademdamola, Ifiok Umoh, Trevon Sanders, Donald Clay and Charles Okeze seek to get off to a good season in the men's 400-meter dash.
On the women's side, Loveth Odia, Abike Egbeniyi, Taylor Day, Agnes Abu and Shaina Johnson will represent the Blue Raiders in the 400-meter dash, while Janet Amponsah, Elizabeth Dadzie and Brina Serafino seek to take home the gold in the women's 100-meter dash.
The Blue Raiders will cap the day in the 4x400-meter relays. Both men and women will compete two squads. MT's team of Andeniji Adedamola, Eliud Rutto, Ifiok Umoh, Trevon Sanders and the team of Greg Cantrell, Hillary Rono, Sampson Laari and Geoffry Cheruiyot will compete in the first section of the event
For the women, Shaina Johnson, Agnes Abu, Loveth Odia and Abike Egbeniyi will compete in the first section, while Taylor Day, Barbara Vilson, Julia Jelagat and Jessica Howell will race in the second section.
Following Friday's meet, the Blue Raiders will return to the track March 24-25 at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State.
